This Vietnam era war story follows Willard, an army caption assigned to find and "terminate with extreme prejudice" the renegade and psychotic Colonel Kurtz, who has established his own unique tribal dominion in an isolated stronghold.

 

Sheen suffered a near-fatal heart attack during the prolonged film shoot in the Philippines.   However, he recovered to complete the movie, and this has become one of his most recognized and acclaimed performances.
