Biography of Mahatma Gandhi, the lawyer who became the famed leader of the Indian revolts against the British through his philosophy of non-violent protest.  Martin Sheen portrays a journalist who covers Gandhi's struggle.
 
Sheen himself was transfixed and transformed by India:  "In India," he said, "every sense is assaulted and battered -- literally -- and the spirit, too."
